Core facilities are centralized shared research resources that provide access to instruments, technologies, services, as well as expert consultation and other services to scientific and clinical investigators. Institutions establish core facilities, including the corresponding costing structure of the facility, to provide required services to users generally with all or a portion of the cost of these services charged to users' accounts. The typical core facility is a discrete unit within an institution and may have dedicated personnel, equipment, and space for operations. In general, core facilities recover their cost, or a portion of their cost, of providing service in the form of user fees.
Core Facilities are entities authorized by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development (VPRED) to generate revenue by providing fee-based services to the University of Arkansas (UA) research community, the Arkansas Research Technology Park (ARTP), as well as external customers.

Arkansas Nano-Bio Materials Characterization Facility
Central Laboratory Animal Facility (CLAF)
The Central Laboratory Animal Facility is designed to provide animal housing space that is fully compliant with federal regulations and the recommendations found in the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. This will assure that researchers, applying for PHS funding, can provide for the proper care and housing for such vertebrate animals as may be used in proposed studies and thus comply with the PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
Tony Munn, the CLAF Facilities Manager, can be contacted at (479) 575-2994 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The CLAF is a secured facility available on a "first-come-first served basis" and use must be arranged, according to established procedures, prior to anticipated need, with the Facility Manager.
