The Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development for the University of Arkansas (UofA) serves as the Chief Research Officer and reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. In this position, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Office of Research Compliance, Technology Licensing Office, High Performance Computing Center, and University of Arkansas Press have reporting lines to him.

The University of Arkansas, founded in 1871, is the state's land-grant and flagship institution, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in a wide variety of disciplines.

Dr. James Rankin serves as Vice Provost for Research and Economic Development.
